charles chapman - the bells of luray

selections of secular, folk, patriotic, and holy music performed on luray, virginia's "great singing tower", a massive carillion of 47 bells, ranging in weight from 12 to over 7,000 pounds. it is "recognized as one of the country's major carillions".

though the selection of music here is not particularly daring, upon listening to it, i was struck by how even the tamest of well trodden melodies sounds trippy on a carillion. 'america the beautiful', unintentionally having harry partch moments. this find is also sweetened by the memories of enduring many childhood trips to luray caverns.
