peter pelham's music

this tape is an organ recital, of music that the hip crowd danced to in the 1750's. peter pelham was a gaol (jail) keeper with a reputation for drunkenly releasing prisoners to help him pump his organ. what he lacked as a warden of convicts he made up for as a talented organist/harpsichordist/spinet player (for church and parties) to the illuminati of colonial boston and williamsburg.

his drunken inattention to duty resulted in his being brought up on charges, but the general assembly cleared him. he also gave the young ladies music lessons. a real man about town. since jailer pelham is long dead, this presentation is performed by j.s. darling.
