this post contains "the lark in the clear aire" by will millar and "shadow hunter" by davy spillane. the two records represent vastly differing approaches to traditional irish music. millar, known as the band leader of irish folk outfit the irish rovers, offers, a pensive pastoral approach, a celtic lullaby with traditional acoustic instruments and bird songs. spillane, known for his soundtrack work on "rob roy" and as a stylistic inspiration for riverdance, brings a stylistically opposed sound, blending the traditional instruments with rock guitars, drums and bass to create a driving shillelagh of sound. famed british blues revival shredder rory gallagher (of taste fame) even makes an appearance on "shadow hunter".
download and... possibly... enjoy both for a real double shot of irish music trouble.
